Frequently Asked Questions
Safety
A Special Concern
1. Campers are under the direct supervision of adult counselors at all times. There are two counselors living in each cabin and one is always on duty. The policy of continuous "after taps" presence of a counselor in the cabin is rigidly followed
2. Campers are never left unsupervised. They are never sent on errands which remove them from the presence of the counselors with the group.
3. Participation in every activity includes instruction in safety practices designed to protect the welfare of the camper. Over-extension, hazing, and feats of endurance are not permitted.
4. Counselors are trained for various periods of time each season before campers arrive. First aid is available, hospital and physicians are in reasonable reach.
Camperships
The cost of camp at RimRock is $150. Compared to other camps with this quality of facility, the fee is a bargain. Even so, for some of us the costs could be prohibitive. We are committed to offer camp to ANY child who wants to come, regardless of the parent’s ability to pay. Therefore, we have established a campership fund for Junior Camp. The funds are not unlimited, so we ask you to pay at least the $100 registration fee. We will give camperships on a first come basis. So apply soon!
Age Appropriateness
The activities and curriculum are aimed at children entering the 4th through 6th grades in the fall. The characteristics of that age group that we plan for are: ∙ Lots of Energy - they play hard from 8 am to 11 pm. No naps. ∙
Group Social Skills - they are assigned to a small group of 10 and have to be able to adapt to and get along with a variety of new people. No cliques.
Readiness for Challenge
They need to be able to leave the security of home in order to embrace the challenges. No homesickness. ∙
Thinking Skills
Listening to a speaker, reading, and some reasoning help during discussion and study times
. No school work. Once in awhile there are 8 or 12 year olds that this description fits. You know your child best! Please be considerate of the staff and ask for special permission if you believe Junior Camp is a good fit for your camper
More Frequently Asked Questions
Snack Shack Banking
There is a time allotted each day to go to the snack shack and gift shop. Snacks include things such as candy, gum, chips, cookies, and jerky and sodas. Ten dollars is an ample amount to allow your child a treat and a soda each day.
There are also T-shirts, sweatshirts, and small novelties for purchase. T-shirts run between ten and fifteen dollars, sweatshirts run between twenty and twenty-five dollars.
All cash should be sent in an envelope with your child’s name, the amount enclosed. Cash is collected and entered into an account for your child. At no time is cash accepted for any purchases, so we ask that they not have cash with their belongings.
Any left over cash is returned at the end of camp. This keeps their money safe, yet allows them to have financial responsibility. Planning how much to spend each day is a great lesson in stewardship!
Transportation
Most parents prefer to make their own arrangements for transportation so that campers can travel with their friends and parents can see the facility. There is a Transportation Coordinator for each session of camp who will be contacting you the week before camp if you checked the box on the Registration form “I need a ride”. Bus ride can be arranged for any camper that needs a ride to camp or home from camp, which will leave Casper at 9 a.m.
Campers utilizing the bus can be picked up in Casper at about 3 p.m. Friday. Drivers are welcome to eat lunch with your camper on Monday and Friday. It is a two hour and a half drive.
Phone calls / Homesickness
There is cell service at RimRock. The cell number for the Directors on site is 307-259-3592 or 307-331-8583.
All day long campers are busy with activities and not available to take your call.
Most 9 to 11 year olds can stay away from home for the week without any problems with homesickness.
However, when a camper needs to call home, the camp director will make sure that the camper is given access to a phone. It is very important that you list an emergency phone number on the registration form in case you are not at home when they get the urge to call.
